Thursday's meeting December 7, 2000
At the user's group, there were about 20 people.

There were 5 computers being worked on.

There were 3 Palm Pilots (Seth's, Rob's, and Patrick's). No Linux, but they
were exchanging games and other interesting programs using the infared on their
Palm's. Patrick had the neatest metal case for his Palm. It protect the Palm
from damage.

Paul admitted he lost Seth's stylus for his Palm Pilot. He wanted to let
everyone know. So now everyone does.

Seth started talking about Furby's gettting more memory. I brought up how I
would like to see a wireless Furby. Parents could sit at their computers and
have the Furby say, "What are you doing?". Could you imagine the child talking
to their Furby not knowing it's their parents? The Furby could read your
e-mail, web pages. Who needs a stupid little paperclip? How about your Furby
asking the questions? The Furbys are cute and would be fun because they
wouldn't be limited to small talk. Hey, why limit it to reading? They
could be your next best friend with their voice. A Furby phone. I think it
was Paul who said, "Are we getting Furby bored?".

It was brought up how MS is changing some ports. Like Port 80. They decided to
use it for SOAP (whatever that is?). What in the world are they thinking?
They also mentioned some other ports which they're trying to use. I didn't
write those down.

This is a good site, I never knew about it so I thought I'd pass it on.

Bob talked about setting up a NAS box. Jamie and Bob talked about the NFS
filing system. Bob told me I should run "localdb" after I install something.
This allows "locate" to find the file. We also talked about hdparm and how
much it increased our hard drive speeds.

Mike did a search of that different Russian name he has. He found a CZECH page
and
