We've been talking about doing this too. The startup costs have
been prohibitive. Now, with this information I can ask our
secretary to write up a grant request to fund it. We could
upgrade our 56K and DSL to T1 then to T3 when it got too
crowded.
Is it radio broadcast or line-of-sight (infrared or microwave)?
Maybe we could include Palm Pilot compatibility.
Maybe each person we signed up would agree to be a repeater so
the act of signing someone up would naturally extend the range.
There is a lot of reading to do.

There has been talk about this, but it requires somebody with a
good,
fast connection who doesn't mind sharing. Having a friend or
two come
over to share your t1 is one thing, but 30+ joes can get pretty
crowded,
packet-wise. I guess with traffic shaping it could be
manageable, but
the more people you have going, the slower and more of a pain it
gets to
be.

Organizing Linux users is like herding cats, only harder.
