Does the group have (or have access to) a VCR and TV/monitor. I have
learn2.com's Linux Training Essentials, which consists of a tape on
linux command line stuff (at least the short part I watched) and a tape
on StarOffice. I bought them for BFLUG, but was pleasantly surprised at
how useful the Linux tape was. Maybe its being inured to the limits of
the CP/M and MS-DOS command line limitations, but it took me a long time
to start to actually use the many useful keyboard tricks available in
Linux. For example -- don't ask me why -- I knew that <Tab> would fill
out a filename, saving some truly grotesque typing, but it took me a
year and a half to remember to use it! (Ok, maybe I'm just retarded.)

It might be useful to take the best of the "cool command line tricks"
and make them available on the EUGLUG site. Also, the list would make a
great handout for new members. Before I left Buffalo, I was just
beginning to flesh out the idea of a "New Member Kit," a folder
containing useful printed items (e.g., command line tricks, commonly
used commands, security check list...), freebies (like "I Brake for
Penguin" bumper stickers), a one or two floppy disk mini Linux release
(for those paralyzed over the idea of partitioning their HD to instal a
full Linux distro), and (if a religious war could be avoided) EUGLUG's
own complete Linux distro CDROM. The kits could be sold at cost to cover
any expenses. I'd be happy to work with anyone interested in pursuing
this idea.
