It's all just marketing.  There really isn't any difference in
the consumer's mind if the ad they are looking at is a TV
commercial or a "news article".

Some of people I deal with base their buying decisions on how
that manufacturer is doing in the stock market.  The fact that
the stock market is just as susceptible as the average consumer
to marketing hype isn't enough to change their minds.  This makes
it possible to get rich selling NT boxes, the number one, all
time leader in hacked computers.
