When installing from CD, if you have a live connection to the internet and specify an ftp/http apt source, it will download most of the files from the net, instead of from CD. If you want a faster install, don't specify the ftp sources. Later, after it's installed, you can run apt-sources (I think) to specify sources. Look in /etc/apt/sources.list. By changing your 'potatoes' to stable (or testing, etc) you'll transition right to woody as soon as it's released, provided you periodically run the below commands. Then apt-get update will get the available files on the servers apt-get upgrade will upgrade all installed files, if one is available. Hey, man! I thought you'd died. Anyway, sometime tonight I'll have a set of potato CDs. I have a spare box and a spare disk to try stuff out on. But when I put it on a real box, uptime will become very important to me. Thanks for all the opinions. (-: I'll be back in a couple of days with lots of apt questions. -- K<bob> [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.jogger-egg.com/
