I'm having trouble getting a Compaq 20/40 GB DAT tape drive to work under RH 6.2.

The drive is correctly reported during the boot-up hardware check. It's the only scsi
device on port 1 (#6).

Neither tar (tar -tf /dev/st0) nor mt (mt -f /dev/0 -p) can find it. Both say "no such
device".

I've verified the cable connections. Compaq's system configuration program correctly
locates the drive and reports its status as "OK", so I'm thinking it must be a Red Hat
problem at this point.

I'm about to plow through "man stinit" to try to create an stinit file to describe the
tape. If anyone out there knows about this or can suggest an alternate approach, pls
let me know.
