There is a command queso which will tell the os version and kernel.  It may tell the distro lso. I am on a slowdoze machine for now, because I currently using netzero for ISP.
Does anyone know a free linux compatable ISP?

Subject: Linux version

Is there a command that one can run to find out what version of Linux a server is running. I know there are many other ways to be able to find this information in SOME scenarios i.e. Telnet, if the port is open and CAT in the ETC directory for RedHat distributions there is a RedHat-Release flat text file that depicts the version information.

Thanks,
