It needs a little board that screws in up and behind the toner area. The
transistor burns out right after the capacitor lets it's smoke out.

It's a bear to install and costs less than $50 from Office Imaging.

I'll trade you a working Panasonic 6ppm laser printer (LJllp emulation)
for your HP 712 or take some stuff from my ham radio boneyard?
