[EUG-LUG:370] tar, gzip, and ipchains

                Hi gang,
        I'm currently running Mandrake 7.2 kernel 2.2.17-21mdk.  Would one of you be 
able to work with me on figuring out tar, gzip, and ipchains in a step by 
step plain language manner.  I've read the man pages and HOWTO's but am still 
befuddled.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
