If there were any big conflicts it would tell you.  For instance it might say, 
"REMOVING: gnome this and that and everything on your system"  "INSTALLING 
task-gnome-desktop, gnome-session, gnome-panel.."

You probably don't want to keep that line in there, and do regular apt-get 
update/apt-get ugprades, because you're whole system will be running not completely 
tested (or not at all) software.

Kind of defeats the purpose for running a stable operating system.  A stable OS with 
unstable apps.
