This sounds a lot like the concept behind OS X, except for the
necessity of smart/skilled. I, personally, love the idea of OS X, and I
really wish I had a mac/osX combo to play with. What do you all think
will be the outcome of mac's (re)foray into *nix?

I have high hopes on its adoption. It would be suicide for apple to
stick with the antique OS9 . M$ has a modern OS, *nix is a modern OS,
apple obviosly needs one if they want to survive. Hopefully this will
lead to all the 'necessary' Mac applications being ported to it.
Couple this with the eventual release of an X86 version.. I would be
saying goodbye to linux in a heartbeat.
