after a long, bloody battle (install progeny, edit makefile, recompile kernel, trash GDM, oh look it crashed, boot to old kernel, edit XF86config-4, oh look, it crashed, reinstall gdm, enable AGP, oh look, it crashed, boot to old kernel, edit XF86config-4, holy sh*t, it works!) i now have a working GeForce with proper drivers. should it still work when i get home tonight, i'm going to test out the 3D capabilities of the driver (it was 3:00 am before it worked, and i needed some sleep...) if that works, i'll borrow my friends's Q3 CD for the demo day. i'm also going to try modding the sawfish graphics (if possible...) and make some slick background in Gimp (kind of a "look what you can do with Linux" thing.) either way, it looks like the vacuum cleaner will be up and running for the demo day! thanks to everyone for the tidbits and advice!
