Actually, ISTR an early LJ article on exactly this, as well as Linux use
within the military (including a Red Hat tech support anecdote; when the
support droid asked if he could call the customer back after checking on
some info, customer said "i don't know if we'll still be surfaced then
 - erm, i mean, no thanks, we'll hold").  I'd think that general linux
acceptance within military and military-contractor IT would be an excellent
thing, both for the military and for linux; it would enhance the military's
independance from any particular OS vendor, reduce expensive line items, 
and ensure linux-related jobs at military contractors...
