Subject: Oregon Linux Gaming Project

To whom:

Thought you might be interested in a project we are doing here in
Southern Oregon. It is this Saturday (June 16th) in Ashland.

Falcon Northwest, manufacturer of high-end gaming PC's, is investigating
the usage of Linux as a viable gaming platform and has teamed with the
Rogue Penguins Linux Users Group.
We will meet for a day or so to install, configure and test various
Linux distributions and games on some of today's hottest hardware.
Depending on the success of the project, follow up meetings may be
scheduled.

Hardware will be provided by Falcon Northwest and will include :

AMD Dual Palomino (Athlon 4) processor platform
AMD Thunderbird DDR platform
Nvidia Geforce 2 and Geforce 3 video hardware
Promise IDE RAID configurations up to 120 GB

Among the project items to be covered:
Choosing a distribution
Installation, configuration and driver support
Game installation
Benchmarking
High-speed and dial-up internet configuration

We are encouraging all Linux hobbyists and users to attend, along with
others interested in investigating Linux for the first time. In
addition, those with a passion for the fastest PC hardware will get
their fill.
This will be an open-forum project - all ideas and input will be
appreciated.
