I do not know how the star office database server works. Did you start the
server? Does anyone know if the server can write directly to the disk
bypassing the file system but knows the filesystem (ext2?) well enough to
work?  You might also do man hdparm and see which option to use to see how
it is setup.
If  possible you might try less aggressive options.
