Since efn has now got DSL, i was one of the first test-case setups. I was
sitting here at my laptop, when i reflected that our shell server [0]
used to have a monitor, mouse and keyboard attached, and the admins used
to sit at it and run X programs. So i thought i'd try out remote X. A
local run of xhost + garcia.efn.org and a remote run of
DISPLAY=206.96.131.123:0 netscape & later, and i was running Netscape 1.1N
with the display coming over the DSL. Is it an indicator of extreme
geekitude that i find this nifty, even obsoleet[1]?

As a side note, Netscape 1.1 doesn't seem to deal well with today's Web.
Trying to go to www.debian.org yields a perpetual runaround of "site has
moved >here<", due to a redirect form in the HTML at the index page...

[1] obsoleet, something so old and crufty it acquires a certain aura of
romantic nostalgia, as in the Story of Mel the Real Programmer,

Yes, we ARE a bunch of anal, short-tempered, quick to fly-off-the-handle,
sarcastic, know-it-alls. That's what running networks does to you.
