Subject: (file > 170k) + SAMBA + share on vfat volume = no permission?

Here's the deal:
My linux fileserv is running samba to sahre files to my win9x
stations. It works nicely except when I try to write files bigger
than 170k to the shares that are on volumes other than /. They
are mounted as /ftp and /mp3. Both are vfat. On a share called
/testing with is just a dir on /, everything works perfectly. And
on the other shares I can delete/move files with no trouble. I
can create/delete directories. This all works regardless of file
size. The problem starts when I try to cross volumes/filesystems.
If I try to copy a file from /testing or from one of the
workstations to either /ftp or /mp3, it fails if the file is
larger than 170k, saying "access is denied". In all cases where
the file is smaller than 170k, it succeeds. Any sugestions? I
have already exhausted my limited experience and tried afew other
boards online, all only to discover that it should work, and
nothing seems to be wrong.

TIA
