unfortunately, from what i hear, you may have to open a port or two to allow
someone on the other end to send you files.  but if you're not worried about
getting files from people, just do as tim says below.  no need to change the
firewall.

i prefer to stay away from chat programs so i have no idea which ports you'd
have to open.
