EFF may have backed off, but the protest has NOT been cancelled.
The predominant opinion on Slashdot seems to be that it's best to
protest anyway, as Adobe has handed off jurisdiction to the Feds and
cannot be expected to free Dmitry. It's nice that Adobe is planning to
talk, but we have a Russian overdue home, and Adobe can't free him. This
is a criminal case for the Federal Government's prosecution to drop, not a
civil matter for Adobe to influence, let alone drop.
So the protests might happen anyway, just no longer with EFF's
blessing.
After that, honesty compels me to note the following:
I already took last weekend off for the Country Fair. I must work
this weekend. I wish anyone going to Portland Monday the best possible
demonstration. I won't be there, sorry.
