I've got a secondhand PII/233, based on an LX motherboard with an intel
chipset, and I've been doing my damnedest to install Redhat 6.0 (the first
linux CD I came across -- free and I figured I'd upgrade later) but I
think I must be having hardware trouble: the system won't detect my
disk(s) on the primary IDE port. I can boot from the ATAPI cdrom, on
the secondary port, and even install the OS on the disk when it's plugged
into that port... but it won't boot from the disk. I've tried fooling with
jumper settings and the BIOS, to no avail and I'm near my wits end. I
really don't want to spend any more money on this machine, if I can help
it. I fear that the primary IDE controller may be fried.
Will someone versed in PC hardware please tell me some way to fix this I
haven't thought of? Or, do any of you have an old but definately
functional functional mobo that would accept a PII, that you'd sell me
really cheap?
Sorry if this is off topic, I just don't know whom else to ask.
