So,
our main mail server goes down @ about 6:30 pm
I investigate and find that it is running out of memory about 5 minutes after
boot.
I remember that its a 4th sysadmin sysadmin at least 2 of which were not,
shall we say, *interested* in securing things, and therefore its the
personal playground for multiple irc h4ck32z

its a Redhat 6.0 MOSTLY DEFAULT install.
I realize that its going to take more to fix this thing, than its worth.

So, I tar up /home/ and /etc/mail/ and /etc/passwd and /var/spool/mail and
/etc/procmailrc and /etc/procmail

and then I wipe the system.
at this point its about 10pm

I boot to my debian potato floppies.
I do a base install off the net.
I apt-get sendmail, sshd and a couple of other admin type packages.
i untar /etc/procmail, /var/spool/mail, and copy some of /etc/passwd back in.
untar /home/.
untar /etc/mail
do come basic stuff to sendmail.mc
make
restart sendmail

whammo

working mail server. faster than its been since 1997

I want to have linus's children.
I'm gonna change my first-born son's name to root.

Where do I wanna go today Bill? lets see... debian.org perhaps?
