I would expect that to take less than 10 seconds; something is
seriously wrong, though perhaps the something is the Linux
implementation of NFS.

What kind of connection is used?  Are they all on the same ethernet?
Have you checked for ethernet errors or just ethernet business?  

Try running "netstat -i -c" and looking for errors.  Also watch the
changes in the "packets received" count--that will tell you if your
ethernet is busy.

Have you checked /var/log/message?
