Why are you upgrading it? Keep in mind: Debian's security team will often (almost always) PATCH any fixes back into the existing version, so if you have security.debian.org in your sources list, you will get fixed versions of whatever the software is, WITHOUT having to upgrade to a new version. So, for example, if sendmail has a security issue/bug, rather than install the new version, you will get a fixed version of the same package.
