Another progress report: at Thursday's meeting I was trying to get
poweroff working on my laptop with either 2.4.9 or 2.2.19 -- switching
from SMP to a uniprocessor kernel fixed it. Now my laptop's power
management features all work dandily.
(But I had to do more than "make clean" to switch a kernel tree from
SMP to uniprocessor -- there are still kernel makefile things I
haven't figured out.)
