There is a line in the php.ini with extension=imap.so I ran "locate imap.so". The closest thing that showed up was mod_imap.so which, I'm told, is Apache's image module.
If you have phpGroupware's email running on our system, what is the result of "locate imap.so"? The links you gave, Been there. Done that. No joy.
