Here are some web resources for setting up IDE cable select.
I found this information very helpful for installing multiple
Mobile Racks on my computer systems. Using cable select I can
switch drives from one bay to another or from one computer to
another without having to worry about the IDE drive's master
and slave settings. Did you know that all 80 pin IDE cables
are already setup for cable select? The black connecter is
master and the gray is slave, if you set your drive's jumpers
to cable select they will automatically pickup the setting
from the cable wherever they are plugged in. Even more good
news: a drive jumpered as cable select will show up as master
on a non-cable select older 40 pin ide cable, so you can swap
a single drive with an older system without having to upgrade
the cable.

I hope you find these links useful.
