So I spent a fair part of my weekend doing the
make config
dance, because I could not for the life of me figure out how to
get my ethernet card module built in to the kernel.

My ethernet card(rtl8139) is supported, or at least there is a file in the
source tree called rtl8139.c ; However; no matter what tortures I put
config through it does not ever offer me the option of saying
yes I want to include RealTek 8139 support in this kernel.

before wandering around blindly mangling MakeFile I figured I'd ask here.

kernel 2.2.19 (most recent in debian-stable, with ptrace bugfix etc.)
Debian 2.2 (and yes I am doing make kpackage-clean each time I run make
config.

TIA
