Seems like we keep wanting to keep expanding the potentials that we can reach 'ourselves'... like generating our own power, but I'm sure most of you know that solar cells are not yet being grown! I don't mean to discount agculture, but I think we've got enough trouble just keeping folks fed; I'm seeing power decentralize more and more lately, and think that will continue. The same way ip6 goes, we may never see elimination of existing power grids, but rather "islands" so to speak, where there is little-to-no dependence. I also see a clear metaphor to operating systems, and would like to remind any grumblers that DIY (do-it-yourself) philosophy is at the heart of both. <flame avert=on> I'm glad I can go out and buy a computer (my carvings wouln't compute=), but I'd like to be powering it by a combination of pelton wheel and biomass on my homestead (which, yes, is still in planning phase). <flame avert=off> I'm glad we've got some modern representation here, to speak definitively on Health in our Nuclear Age; most of my social peers are simply averse to technology. I often try to help them understand more of my perspective when I see them cringing with fear, which recognizes that civilization is not likely to crumble in our lifetimes... but I like to keep a B plan around for survival (my camping gear and some tools, ha ha). So anywhoo: Linux is Free Power, like the Great Penguin, whose Herring do not decrease.
