Ed, There was a well-attended meeting in June (or so) of 1998 at Allan Bros. Kaplan advertised it well, I even saw a post to comp.os.linux.announce. Before that, the meetings were very hit and miss.
Someone (James?) collected names and emails at that meeting, but they were never posted anywhere as far as I can tell. As for my vote, I like Kaplan's slate of officers, including Ed as Secretary, although perhaps unlike Kaplan I favor the GPL & BSD influence. Ralph Seen on comp.os.linux.announce: From: "James S.
