Thanks for the link, Seth. I checked out the noguska software, and it looks interesting. Here are my first impressions, after only testing it for about 15 minutes:
-For those of us on a slow wire, the download is only 3,178,313 bytes. -It's licensed primarily under GPL. -The interface uses javascript intensively. -The underlying program is mainly php. -The program aims to use any sql database, mysql by default. -The setup is fairly easy if you are used to php/mysql. -It's designed for windows users: the javascript breaks in Netscape, Konqueror, and Mozilla. (Others have already complained about this on their mailing lists.) -Even the documentation is mostly in ".doc" files, which I was not able to open with Word, but was readable with StarOffice. -There are about 120 tables created on a skeleton install. The tables appear to be reasonably well thought out at first glance. -It appears to have some kind of estimate/quoting system as well as the other core programs. -The program actually works. I was able to quickly add accounts, create journal entries, and print a (rather ugly) balance sheet. I think it's great to see something like this in php. It would be relatively easy to extend this product to create additional reports, although it doesn't appear to have a report editor like some other packages. For someone looking at this type of product, I'd also check out one called sql-ledger, which I think is on sourceforge.
