the biggext hurdle here is the processor. most *nix's out there want a 68040 processor (and apparently, even a 680LC40 won't do the trick...) the processor should theoretically be fast enough, though. it's on par with a 386 (i think...) just look around for a 68030 kernel. i've only seen 68040 kernels, tho... as far as decoding and playing mp3's, the slowest thing i've tried on has been a P-166. a friend of mine claims to have tried it on a 486, but said it was terribly slow. memory and bus speed probably play a large role there. i wouldn't count on it being able to do much of anything... especially because you still need MacOS on the machine to actually boot from the older machines (they _only_ boot mac os...) the cut-off is the G3, which will actually boot something other than the MacOS. if you guys are hell-bent on using an older motorola, i suggest finding an old amiga at st. vinnies or goodwill. should be relatively cheap, but they usually just throw them out, so good luck. ===== Justin Bengtson @euglug=(v+ e- eug++ bsd? gnu++ s++) [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] "i called some kid 'b' the other day. it's the price you pay for living hip-hop every day of your life."
