Noland Peebles sent the attached letter to me (only he sent it
in MS Word format). I called him and discussed things with him;
after which I decided this issue is of general interest to the
Open Source Community. So I'm forwarding his note to me to the
local mailing lists.
It seems that Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly? <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
is accepting comments on the proposed Microsoft Antitrust/Settlement
until 5 PM Eastern Standard Time on January 28, 2002 and Noland
is trying to make sure people opposing this settlement get heard.
So far he hasn't done very well. I hope this doesn't mean that
most people support the proposed settlement as a fair way of
ending the Microsoft Trust.
In any case, if you have any comments regarding the Microsoft
Trust think about sending a note to:
Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly? <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
and send a copy to:
Noland Peebles <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
and do it by mid-day Monday.
Sincerely,
David Mandel

RE: Microsoft Antitrust/Settlement and Resolution
Greetings:
I am a consultant serving a group of Silicon Valley software
executives whose concerns are the continuation of fair business
practices and an open, competitive market place.
At this juncture, the "deal" (Proposed Final Judgment) offered
by the Department of Justice allows Microsoft to continue its
monopolistic style practices. Microsoft will not be penalized
for these actions and thus, jeopardizes NON-Microsoft minions,
i.e., JAVA, Linux, AOL, the Mac or any other non-Microsoft code
base or services.
Would you join with thousands of other technology users and
email a note to the federal judge assigned to this case:
Her Honor, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly? ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Please be sure to sign your name, telephone number and/or
address at the end of the email, and your views on the matter
and/or commitment to fair business practices. Urge the judge
for a fair and just settlement. You may state that you are aware
of Microsoft's dominance and/or that you support their products
but not a monopoly. You might also address your usage of other
systems. This is your opportunity to be heard. The cost is one
minute of your day.
I would ask that you copy me the email and do so before
January 28, 2002. Please forward this information to any of
your associates or colleagues who would be interested. Again,
ask them to copy me, any emails to Judge Kollar-Kotelly.
I am happy to forward to you, via email, a copy of a detailed
brief for greater information and explanation.
Thank you
Noland Peebles
