To bench mark reading from any disk (reading 1gb): # time dd if=/dev/md1 of=/dev/null bs=1M count=1024 1024+0 records in 1024+0 records out
real 0m37.487s user 0m0.020s sys 0m10.590s # echo 1024/37.487|bc 27 27.3 mb/sec reading the first 1GB from the device. Something more accurate would be reading 17gb then dividing by the time, as it is a 17gb drive. Can I use xscreensavers under KDE? What do I edit where? (RedHat box) I want to benchmark my read speeds on my cdrom's. How? I only seem to be finding info in French or Japanese. And for those interested: the latest latest Mandrake 8.2.2beta ISO's are on my drive if copies are wanted. Let me know. I may even install it myself on my gaming box to see what it has. I'm doing the md5sum's now to make sure they're good. Dat's all. Mr O _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
