Yee-haw!! OCF approacheth! I'd like to help organize and create a newer computing infrastructure for the fair this year, catered to the needs we've been seeing from fairgoers in recent years: 1) Dedicated email stations, so not all computers get locked up with longer-term users... 2) (Agreed!) Digi-mdeia stations. This is an area where I want more info-gathering up front!! The was little-to-no standardized review channels for the media distribution, and with lots of tricky cameras out there (like mine!) that do video but don't show it, the policy-enforcers are totally lost... Maybe we could have webcams and microphones at certain stations, if there's some easy-enough way for $user to deal with capture software. Standard NFS-available drop locations for shared media, so we can pool resources and make a better collaboration of media too. More ideas in this area, up for tabling and shredding : ) 3) It *would* be cool to have kiosks or stations located in other places than the booth... as has been dreamed of for while now. So, in lieu of rambling on into Yet Another Topic, let's start a sub-list for all those interested to collaborate ideas and resources within. I plan on also attending and representing at Burning Man, as well, and I think a lot fo the ideas (and schwaag) are pertinent.
4) A new list. See the end of #3. We can continue there -- as well as at the Wednesday meeting, for all who can attend. If you haven't been involved before, the best way to do it is to jump in. There are a lot of things that can soak up available leadership, momentum, and time. Even though there will likely only be two camping passes (as has been the case for years now), there are more day-passes availble. Even if you do pre-fair work entirely within euglug, there are often day-passes available for last-minute extras to help in other areas of the community village. So if you think you'd be interested, at least chime in online to say such... attend the village-planning meetings if you're serious about participating -- and having a chance of getting in at all. The onsite pre-fair work weekends won't start for a god while yet, but it *is* time for us to be scheming, real-izing what can be for OCF2002, and figuring out exactly what subset of schemes can be attained... 5) IMO many folks have been surprised to see open-source proponents in an environment like the country fair. It's a Good Thing; come join in a grassroots tradition. I have some* media from the fair that has not been reviewed. It is my private stash. If anyone is interested in seeing pictures I took at the fair, let me know... I am not interested in opening the entire archive, but rather could select certain (requested?) shots. My favorite are firedancing (Sat nite); I also have the booth, camping area, crowded main paths, colorful folx, etc... * - 320 megs, mostly 1200x1600 jpg's averaging 400k, and some 4-meg 15-second quicktime mov's... playable in xine or bcast and such : ) On Sun, 2002-03-10 at 11:02, Jamie wrote: > So...
