Thanks for your suggestions, Hurst. I've tried running the Software Manager to get and install update RPMs but my system keeps locking up in the midst of it. I have no idea why; it never even finished downloading any of the updates. Maybe my connection is to slow (28.8) and flaky? I've given up on it for now, but will probably try again next week. I'm taking off for the weekend.
