I ran the FastTrak controller (with the "hot swap" enclosures) through some tests about a year ago and was really disappointed with the results. In particular, pulling a drive from the machine would hang the machine until the drive was put back in place. I finally ended up going with the kernel RAID (md driver), and found it worked much better. When it gets a read error on one of the drives, it will mark that drive bad and continue along on it's merry way using the other drive. I certainly didn't find the Promise card any *BETTER* than the in-kernel stuff, and md is definitely cheaper... Sean -- Have you ever imagined a world with no hypothetical questions?
