Gee golly, just for fun I got to build a dual 2.2Ghz Xeon machine with 2Gb DDR RAM. Needless to say after installing RedHat and grabbing a vanilla kernel I recompiled it just for the fun of it. How long you might ask? 3m9.8..s. Yup, less than 3 minutes 10 seconds to make bzImage on 2.4.17. Sickening you might say but if you've got a few thousand $$ laying around it makes an awesome linux box. Kind of wish it was mine.
