Er, /etc/hosts is usually used for *small*, static networks. I don't work at EFN, but I'd imagine they use DNS. > Also running pure-ftp....after I get pon to connect to EFN. what do I > do then. Do you mean pure-ftpd? If so, why do you want to run an ftp server (esp over a 56k line)? > I know its running breifly because if I go > ifconfig > > it shows me that ppp0 is up and running at 56k. > > but it only stays up for about 40 seconds then goes. > > I want to connect and do an emerge rsync...but I only get messages that > it can't > find the host. > > if I try any type of emerge when the ppp0 is loaded it errors out saying > it can't download http:///.....ya da ya da. I can't explain why you can't stay connected. What are you using to connect to EFN? wvdial? your own scripts? Maybe if you include your configuration (just make sure NOT to post your username/password) and some logs/error messages someone could do a better job of diagnosing the problem. -- <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
