I can't help you there bob, but I can say that ipconfig is the nt/win2k
command line tool that will display or release/renew ip addresses.
However one must use the gui to set them.  Same as winipcfg.  The unix
command ifconfig will view or manually set ip addresses, but won't
automatically release/renew dhcp addresses.  At least I haven't tried to
do it.
