Have you tried using the email interface to moderator functionality?

Mailman 2.12 will let you moderate the messages by replying to the 
admin notifications, and it's relatively
failsafe in that to approve a message you have to put the list password 
into an Approved: header
and to discard you need only return the message with subject line 
intact...
