I don't know what's with the cow theme, but here's an article on installing openbsd on an ibook

OpenBSD has a lot of really good support for things like midi and sound

Larry,
I am also exploring the use of Gentoo on Mac/PPC.
Since I am not yet up to speed with Gentto PPC, I am also exploring possible use of Yellow Dog (since it is supposed to be the most "mature" Linux on PPC ).
You mention a BSD alternative. I know when I tried BSD on X86, it has very poor support for my hardware configuration.
Does BSD have decent support for Mac/PPC?
