I don't have this one by the nose just yet, but if you want to look
ahead I think your fix might be in about:config
that is to say, enter the text "about:config" in the URL bar, and if you
have a recent version of mozilla (or a member of its family!) you'll see
a whole lot of settings, which you can modify.
I think I saw a moz changelog which said that searching in about:config
*just* got into cvs or something, I didn't find anything right off
though. I did find this old status update which indicated that a review
of the window size and position restrictions had been completed, search
the page for "size": http://www.mozilla.org/status/2001-10-17.html

best of luck,

   Ben Barrett

PS - maybe you want to compile a custom mozilla for youself, Bob
-- that seems right up your alley, y'ole hack!
