I guess windows is more forgiving of the reset / send unit of cordless mice. A push of the button and it was fixed. I know I had tried this before, somehow hardware is always making a fool of me. But this was the last hardware issue for this Blender / render only computer. Once again, thank you Bob for help with the sound card drivers. I'll get back in my cave now.
