While the accepted formal definition of spam might prefer
"unsolicited", I think for our purposes, on EUG-LUG, we should raise the
bar to "hated" so we can draw the line before we accept O'Reilly's VB
scripting or .NET offerings (excellent though they might be) without
giving trolls license to flame for allowing O'Reilly (indirectly) to
advertise their Free Software offerings.
I'm uneasy with the thought that by subscribing to EUG-LUG you've
all opted into O'Reilly advertising whether or not ANY subscriber objects.
I look on this discussion as fair warning, speak now or as soon as you
feel the advertising has become obnoxious.
There's a difference, to me, between an anti-commerce and an
anti-spam position. I'm prejudiced. I like O'Reilly. If they're going to
offer EUGLUG preferential treatement, I'd like to see us get our goodies.
But I'm prejudiced, I disapprove of Microsoft.
I am not God, I'm fully capable of error.
