I went to this convention yesterday... it was kinda fun!
http://www.jupiterevents.com/elf/fall03/

I got to hand out lots of knoppix 3.3 disks (one of the lug guys has a
duplicator that does printing too... they looked really cool!)
met some of the other luggers, and yacked tech stuff with them, that was fun!
I even got to meet some more famous people... including Donald Becker (he's
pretty involved with the balitmore LUG, and doing beowulf cluster stuff...
he's an interesting guy...
I went to the Keynote speech with Michael Tiemann, he had some interesting
things to say about enterprise computing, and linux. I've found out some
things you Redhatters will probably not like. They are discontinuing their
commercial product, and dividing into 2 groups, one group is enterprise
oriented (big corporate type computing systems), and development. So, If you
like using redhat, your going to have to either purchase large corporate type
systems, or become part of the wide developer users. There will no longer be
packaged sets at your favorite software store, or support.

I asked Michael about the new distribution system, and he said its not going
to be packages boxes, it will only be with venders (ie you buy a big computer
system, and it will come with it (and hopefully a support contract with the
vendor). For the distribution of the development version you will have to use
CVS.

I wouldnt be looking for version 10 of redhat... If you want to continue using
redhat, probably you will want to look into the fedora project
http://fedora.redhat.com/

KDE had a representative too... he seemed pretty cool, real easy to talk to,
and he had lots of kde knowlege. KDE is developing version 3.2.0, you can get
it via download, and it has a tun of new features, and applications. One of
the most notable is the new anti-aliasing fonts, he said that the new kde
looks a lot cleaner and clearer. He suggested that you add a user (like
username kdeuser), and install the kde 3.2.0 for that user. Then try it out
(its not quite ready for primetime). I checked it out myself yet, but he says
go to the website, and read the instructions, they are pretty easy. For other
users to use the new version (or just the new apps) they may need to change
some paths (like $KDEDIR, KDEPATH, ...) then they should be able to run the
new WM/apps. I mostly only use konqueror and kmail, but some of the new kde
aps look pretty good (such as their IM client... it does a lot of things
besides working with all the different IM services, it also does IRC, an SMS,
and more...) I use gaim mostly, and I belive there are modules for irc, but
not sure about sms (who would I send an sms to anyway!).

I also had a good talk with Brian Proffitt of JupiterMedia, we had some
interesting talks...

There were ofcourse some of the big hitters out there (IBM, Oracle,
RedHat, ...) I didnt really talk to them, but I did talk to a couple of the
"blades" vendors... pretty interesting machines... big powerhouse U-rack type
stuff... they build a cabinet with like 14 U3 racks, and each rack can hold
like 15 blades with 2 or 4 CPU's on each blade... they were pretty sweet...
nice weblike interface for monitoring and adjusting, and scheduling
resources... the amount of processing in one cabinet is beyond my
comprehension! (i need a calculator to figure that out!) one of the neet
things is that they can run window, and linux(at the same time, on different
blades) and change things on the fly... personally, I dont know why you'd
want to run a windows server, but aparenly someone does.
just geussinng, but ill bet that you can compile your kernel faster before
your finger leaves the enter key on one of those things... Imagine how much
fun gentoo would be like with one of those cabinets!

I cant help you with getting one of those systems... but if you want a $99/
year website (includes domain name, email, mysql... but nothing too fancy
like postnuke or plone), I can help you with that!
