Cooper sent this out a few days ago. I think it would be great if the
area LUGs were working together and cross-announcing events, etc.

Dear Friends,
Hi. My name is Cooper Stevenson. I am the Coordinator for the
Mid-Willamette Valley Linux user's group in Corvallis, Oregon. You may
view MWVLUG's site here:
http://www.mwvlug.org
I am writing you today because while the Linux presence in the Pacific
Northwest is very strong, I feel that we can make it even stronger by
pooling our resources and sharing information.
For example, I created a CD for the Legislature while I lobbied for
Oregon's Open Source Consideration bills, HB2892 and SB917. You may find
the online version of the CD here:
http://www.mwvlug.org/open_source_cd/
Imagine if you had this resource when bringing a similar bill to your
state; you could benefit greatly from our work.
Yes, I know there's LinuxToday, Newsforge, etc. Those are great sites,
but I think we can have more. I believe we can have a site that serves
as a rich resource for Northwest LUGS that has a local flavor.
I have created the MWVLUG site with Forums, news submissions, surveys,
and more. You will see that I have linked each of your user groups to
MWVLUG's "links" page here:
http://www.mwvlug.org/modules.php?name=Web_Links&l_op=MostPopular&ratenum=50&ratetype=num
The server itself is located in a secure facility with good bandwidth.
How can you help? It's easy. Right off the top, if you would like to
announce a meeting or event that your LUG is hosting, post it to the
site; it's easy and a great way to boost your attendance.
As the site grows I would like some of you to become Administrators of
the site to help with submissions, moderation, etc.
Also, I'm not "stuck" on having the site be the "Mid-Willamette Valley"
site; it could just as easily become, the "Pacific Northwest Linux
Outpost" or something similar.
I look forward to your input. I know from working with our area LUGS
that we have a lot to offer.
Very Truly Yours,
--
