Palm compatible PDAs work well with Linux. I use jpilot to sync, though there's also a KDE pilot module and probably others. Those that use Windows CE are less Linux friendly. I don't think Linux on PDAs is really mainstream yet -- unless your wife is a Linux zealot, she'll probably be happier with a Palm. Palm compatibles are made by Palm, Handspring, Sony, and others. I can't give advice on current models -- my Handspring Visor Edge has been out of production for a year and a half now. My opinion. Worth what you paid for it.
