Actually, the co-lo I ended up choosing (the IP Services data center
near Coburg/Beltline) does permit me to get physical access as needed.
The point in my talk is that there are several co-lo providers in the
area (particularly those operating out of the UofO data center) that
won't let you get access to the machine. What the heck good is that?
I may as well host the box in California or anyplace else in the world
if I'm not allowed to touch it when I need to (which is rarely, but
still).

Right now I'm paying $125/mo for 1U with 1GB of bandwidth (goes up
to $150/mo for 1-3GB). I'm not with IP Services directly because
they don't want to deal with 1U customers, but they did refer me
over to the Feynman Group who resell rack space from the IP Services
data center.

OpenBSD firewall with a flat network behind it-- after all, I've
"only" got 20 or so devices connected to my home/office network.
Since my house was a total remodel, I actually had them run a lot
of Cat5 through the walls.

I'll still probably set up WiFi once we move in, just so I can work
outside on my deck easily. At this point I'm planning on segmenting
the WiFi network off onto a separate leg of my firewall from the
"internal" network. And, of course, I'll set up WEP, etc.

Yeah, I swore I'd never become a Qwest customer and look at me now.
The good news is that they were out with a Ditch Witch earlier this
week running the new pairs to my house.
