Tuesday Night after seeing Matt MacClary's (?spelling) presentation on how he built a locked down Knoppix for use in a hardware programming class at OSU.
A few of us were doing the post LUG stand around and talk about stuff thing in front of Klodfelter's and the topic of ways to energise the LUG and spread the OSS goodness around came up. One of the ideas mentioned had to do with doing a book drive for the library (whose collection is a somewhat mixed thing). So I went aand chatted up a couple of librarians and learned some interesting things. a. they have some funds budgeted for new book purchases and would welcome suggestions. b. If a group wants to donate a number of books at once we can get a little bookplate credit put in to books we donate. c. If we want to supply install media for current versions of popular free OS's the library would in fact be happy to package it and put it on the shelf. So, a. please share your suggestions for great books on computers and netwroking that the library does not have. (they already have a copy of Knuth) b. indicate your willingness to participate in a fundraiser towards making a group O'reilly purchase (group=discount, this might be a good time to pick up that "COBOL in a nutcase" book and do some good at the same time ;-) c. would you be willing to supply disks, install instructions, work with the library to make sure the materials met their packaging needs? _______________________________________________ EUGLUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.euglug.org/mailman/listinfo/euglug
