As long as you configure the firewall correctly, it will be 
reasonably safe.  Remember that there are lots of way around a 
firewall.

Go to the links for lesson 10.  The lab exercises are written to 
be how-tos that my students can use in the Real World after 
they've taken my classes.  While the lab #10 is not generalized 
enough to be a recipe book that will work in every situation, 
there should be enough there for you to learn how it works and 
intelligently apply it to your situation.
